BADMINTON players gathered at the weekend to celebrate the golden anniversary of their club.
St Austell Bay Badminton Club opened its doors in 1964 as the New Cornish Riviera Badminton Club in Carlyon Bay and has since gone from strength to strength, with six teams currently playing from its base at Polkyth Leisure Centre.
The club are the current County Club Champions after winning the West Briton Cup last season, and play competitively in the Mid Cornwall Badminton League.
There are three men’s teams, one ladies, one combination and one mixed, and it is also a social club that welcomes players of all levels, including up and coming youngsters in the junior section.
To celebrate its 50th year the club held a party for current and former members at Sticker Football Club on Saturday.
The club is holding ladies only night for potential new members tomorrow (Thursday, September 11) at Polkyth Leisure Centre from 7pm.
