Project Supported by the Cornwall County Badminton Association (CCBA) Club Development Fund
Penair School has been buzzing with energy as Truro Badminton Club launched a new coaching initiative designed to introduce and re-engage players with the sport of badminton. The program consisted of eight one-hour sessions, led by a Level 2 Badminton England coach, and supported by another Level 1 coach from Truro Badminton Club.
The sessions were held on Friday evenings, immediately before the regular club night, creating a seamless pathway for participants to transition into club play. After promoting the course on social media, they were thrilled to welcome 11 enthusiastic players – a mix of complete beginners, those returning after a long break, and others who had only recently picked up a racket.
The standard across the group was relatively even, which allowed the coaching team to deliver tailored coaching that focused on building confidence, improving technique, and fostering a love for the game. While many participants are still on their journey toward becoming regular club players, a couple have already taken the next step by attending St Pirans Badminton Club nights, held at the same venue.
This initiative was made possible with support from the Cornwall County Badminton Association (CCBA) Club Development Fund, which provided financial support to help cover coaching costs and venue hire. The fund plays a vital role in growing badminton across Cornwall by supporting projects that encourage participation and create pathways for players of all ages and abilities.
This program highlights the importance of creating accessible opportunities for people to get involved in badminton, whether they’re starting from scratch or rediscovering the sport. We look forward to seeing more of these players progress and hope to see similar programs run in the future at other venues.
