BADMINTON SEASON 2006/2007: THE HONORARY PRESS AND PR OFFICER’S REPORT TO THE CCBA AGM
9th May, 2007 Madam Chairman, President, Ladies and Gentlemen. I am pleased to report on a generally satisfying season within Cornwall County and wish to express my heartiest congratulations to Claire Whitmore, aged 15, a student at Truro School and member of the First Edition Club, who lifted the County’s Larry Landrey Junior Progress Trophy, together with Emily James, her club-mate, who won the Cornwall Senior “Closed” singles trophy. A well-earned pat on the back is in order to our two new senior post-holders, namely Kath Wotton, Development Officer and James Whetter, the Web Master, in respect of their sterling work throughout the season. And, best wishes to CYB’s Tony Poole and Alan Williams, who are standing down as the Chairman and Under-17 Co-manager, with Alan remaining as Tournament Secretary for the popular Kerrier Junior Events. Now news from two schools: Launceston College and Truro School, flew the Flag of St. Piran so proudly, once more, in the National Schools’ Finals, staged at Milton Keynes, at the end of April. Launceston secured a fourth berth, overall, with Truro registering a marvellous third position in three events. On the media front, over the past season, two new newspapers came on stream in the Duchy, – The Truro Free Advertiser, which joined its North and Mid-Cornwall Sister papers, along with the St. Austell Voice, which makes it a grand total of sixteen newspapers, no less, publishing our beloved sport, currently. In addition, the Atlantic FM Commercial Radio Station, based at St. Agnes, started broadcasting last July – joining Kernow’s regulars, BBC Radio Cornwall and Pirate FM. And Jane Friggens, Atlantic’s Breakfast and Morning Co-presenter, has been doing an especially good job for our fraternity, of late, including putting out the updates from the Nottingham ICT Finals. Many thanks to everyone who has kept me posted on matches and events. Next season, I will again gladly attend to the fine-tuning of any articles that are e-mailed to my office, endeavouring to include more senior news, as well. This concludes my report and I will be pleased to stand for re-election to the Press and PR Post. John Tresidder Cornwall County, CYB & Duchy “Open” Badminton Press/PR Officer. |
