CORNWALL VETS OVER-55 TEAM IS GALLANT RUNNER-UP IN TWO COMPETITIONS

The Cornwall Over-55 Veterans Badminton Team has experienced a very successful season in the South West of England League, writes John Tresidder, with Brian Hannibal.

It finished the 2005/2006 campaign in a very creditable runners-up position.
Indeed, in two matches - against Avon II, away and Somerset, at home - the team registered two glorious 12-0 whitewashes and, but for an injury to a team member in the final match - away to Avon First String - the team may have been crowned champions.
Avon First Team, nonetheless, became the champions, by virtue of beating the Duchy, 7-5 and thus qualifying for the National League Finals.

Meanwhile, at the Badminton Weekend, sponsored by Yehlex, at Poole, Dorset, in January, the Vets team finished in the runners-up berth out of seven counties and just missed on a trip to the finals of that competition, as well.

DIARY: The Poole weekend, 2007, is scheduled for January 13th / 14th.
