CORNWALL BADMINTON “CHIEFS” CELEBRATE PROMOTION IN STYLE:

Cornwall Badminton First Team has just celebrated becoming champions of Division 4 and promotion, thus a return to the Badminton ENGLAND Inter-County Division 3, writes John Tresidder with James Whetter.

It proved to be a struggle to get a team together for each match and the “Chiefs” did not manage to put its strongest team out for any match.

However the following results speak for themselves and, in effect, duly pays tribute to the large squad employed:

W. Glamorgan 9 - 6 Cornwall;
Dorset 3 4 - 11 Cornwall;
Cornwall 7 - 8 Dorset 3;
Somerset 3 4 - 11 Cornwall;
Avon 3 5 - 10 Cornwall;
Cornwall 10 - 5 W. Glamorgan;
Cornwall 15 - 0 Somerset 3.

And, it is understood at the time of going to press that Alison Philp, (nee Williams), Cornwall’s former England No. 9 Ranked Junior and Erica Prowse (nee Keeling) - stalwarts and top-flighters for the Duchy Chiefs over many years - may be available for selection - on a regular basis - for next season’s campaign.

However, all potential squad members for the Inter-County 2006/2007 campaign - first and second strings, together with the veterans teams - will be expected to go through the County “Closed” Senior Championships and Cornwall Trials selection process, as per normal.
