BADMINTON: PLAYER PROFILE – EMILY JAMES MAKES A SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION TO THE COUNTY SENIOR RANKS.

Falmothian, Emily James, aged 15, has become one of Cornwall’s most improved badminton players over the past season, which is just nearing its conclusion, writes John Tresidder.

Emily, a student of Truro School has experienced a memorable season and has developed her power game overhead, which is now allied to her skilled touch shot play, previously.

She has also been seen to progress and make the transition successfully, from the Junior to Senior ranks - into the Cornwall Senior Second Team and turns out for the Cornwall Youth Badminton Under-17 Team, as well.

Indeed, the young badminton star, who also shows considerable prowess on the tennis court, as well as the hockey field, recorded an inaugural Ladies’ Singles win for Cornwall Badminton Second String, against Guernsey, last month.

Amongst Emily’s badminton coaches are David Hunt, a former County Badminton 1st Teamer and a Master at Truro School, together with Clif Morcom, at the First Edition Club, based in Camborne.

And, in the National Schools’ Finals, held at Luton on March 18th the young lady, helped her Truro School Girls’ Under-16 Team to a magnificent 9th position, overall.

Meanwhile, at the prestigious Kerrier 11th Junior Tournament, held at Truro School, two week later, Emily was seen to take the scalps of three top-flight Devon girls, no less, when she took the honours in the Girls’ Under-17 Singles.

Many congratulations, Emily, from the Cornwall County Badminton Association, C.Y.B., Truro School and John Tresidder.
