BADMINTON: CAMELFORD B.C. LIFT THE PRESTIGIOUS WEST BRITON “BOWL” FOR THE FIRST TIME
Camelford Badminton Club lifted the West Briton “Bowl” – the Duchy’s Senior Trophy - for the first time in its history, in the final played at St. Austell’s Polkyth Leisure Centre, on Sunday, February 5th , writes John Tresidder, with MIke Nancekivell. Camelford defeated Liskeard, narrowly, by 5 rubbers to 4, in a battle-royale encounter. The champions recorded one Mixed Doubles, one Ladies’ Doubles, as well registering a whitewash in the three Men’s Doubles. Suzie Colwill and Dan Pooley, recorded hat tricks for the victors, with Vera Nancekivell, the Former Cornwall First Teamer, replying likewise for Liskeard. Helen is welcomed back into top-flight play: It was also heartening to see Camelford’s Helen Beer, nee Avery, the former Cornwall Second Team Player – beginning to get back into top-flight badminton and improving her overall game, in the process. And Helen contributed to the victory by winning the No. 1 Ladies’, in tandem with Suzie Colwill, as well as going to a deciding end in her Mixed Doubles, in partnership with Rob Cook. The trophy is scheduled to be presented at Cornwall County’s Annual Dinner/Dance, on Friday, April 28th – two weeks following Easter – at the Hotel Riviera, Lusty Glaze Road, Newquay.
