BADMINTON: CHRIS AND JULIE MARRY AT TRURO

Chris Penhaligon, the former Cornwall number one, whose family home is in Truro, married Julie Selway a PE Teacher, at Kenwyn Parish Church, Truro, just before Christmas, on December 22nd, writes John Tresidder.

Chris incurred an Achilles injury, back in September and, following surgery, he is now progressing very well indeed.

The couple’s home is in Devizes, Wiltshire and Chris works as a Duty Manager in the Melksham Leisure Centre.

Mike Avery and Jenny Marchant - the County President & Chairman - together with the Cornish Badminton Fraternity conveys its best wishes to Chris and Julie for their future health and happiness.

Meanwhile, one of the highlights in the Duchy’s Badminton Year Ahead, will be Sunday February 5th undoubtedly.

On this date, Gloucestershire’s Rebecca “Bex” Pantenay is scheduled to visit Cornwall to coach the Cornwall Youth Badminton (CYB) youngsters, at St. Austell’s Polkyth Leisure Centre.

Bex, a top-flight coach, is the popular Former England International and a Duchy of Cornwall “Open” Mixed Doubles champion in 2004.

Finally, the second leg of the Cornwall Junior Badminton Championships, 2005/2006 – the Under-15 and Under-17 events are taking place at Fowey Community Leisure Centre, Fowey on: Saturday & Sunday, January 7th / 8th 2006, commencing at 10.00am each day.

The Under-13 Events were contested in November and proved to be a very successful, indeed.

An encouraging sixty six players overall, have entered the Junior Championships, with supporters and spectators being most welcome.
