HELSTON, ONE OF THE DUCHY’S MOST FAMOUS AND SUCCESSFUL BADMINTON CLUBS LOOKING FORWARD TO TO REFORMING IN FEBRUARY.

There is great news from Helston Badminton Club, whose Sports Hall Base, at Helston Leisure Centre, Church Hill, Helston, is being refurbished in its entirety, inclusive of the laying of a new seamless hall floor, writes John Tresidder.

Helston Badminton Club, who voluntarily suspended its playing activities in 2004, owing to a variety of reasons, including unavailability of hall, member retirements and student migration to university, is looking forward now to re-commencing its club nights in February, 2006.

The Club, which has kept the Constitution/Committee insitu, for this period, intend to hire two courts for a two-hour period on Wednesday evenings for a trial period, extending to Easter, 2006.

And, if all goes according to plan and subject to approval from the AGM., later on in the Spring, the Club intends to re-enter a team in the West Cornwall Badminton League, for the 2006/2007 season.

Club stalwart:

Mr. Peter Drew, the Helston Chairman and Club stalwart, for many years, who is now a County Veteran Player, says: “These are exciting times, not just in conjunction with the Leisure Centre and the Sports Hall’s face-lift, overall, but also for Helston Badminton.

“New members will be most welcome and if anyone wishes to have a chat about the current situation, including re-joining/joining, then they will be most welcome to contact me, Tel: 01326 – 574569.”

Team members keen:

There has been considerable interest in the reformation and several original team members, including Sandra Metcalfe and Barry Partridge, are looking forward to getting back on court and to renew acquaintenances.

Finally, it is hoped that Mr. Joe Trethewey, Cornwall’s New Badminton Development Officer will be able to attend the proposed re-launch, to hit the first shuttlecock with Mr. Drew and Mr. Tony Poole, the Chairman of Cornwall Youth Badminton (CYB), in attendance.
