18th September, 2005 DUCHY BADMINTON REVIEW (1ST DAY) BADMINTON: SHUTTLES BACH TO TERRA FERMA, AFTER THE DUCHY “OPEN” ATTRACTED A RECORD 131 COMPETITORS John Tresidder Reports that: Play resumed today (Sunday) at 10-0-clock with the Men’s and Ladies’ Doubles, in the Duchy of Cornwall 23rd “Open” Badminton Championships, which are being staged at Carn Brea Leisure Centre, Pool, Near Redruth. Yesterday (Saturday), Hampshire’s Jo Dix and Paul Le-Tocq, from South Glamorgan, were crowned the Ladies’ and Men’s champions in the blue ribband singles’ Events. 2/2: Meanwhile, the Host’s Guy Michell, aged 16, who hails from St. Austell and who is one of the South West of England’s foremost young talents, reached the semi-finals of the Men’s Singles “Plate” - an incredible feat in his debut Duchy Tournament.
