New BDO for Cornwell

BADMINTON England, in partnership with the Cornwall Sports Partnership, are pleased to announce the appointment of a part time Badminton Development Officer for Cornwall County, writes John Tresidder & John Edwards.

Joe Trethewey (26) from Millbrook, will take up his appointment on Monday, October 17th 2005.

He has lived in Cornwall all his life, has played badminton for 15 years and is the Fixtures Secretary for Torpoint Badminton Club, who play in the Plymouth League.

Joe recently, successfully attended a BADMINTON England Level 1 Assistant Coach Course and Level 2 Coach status is his next aim.

As the BDO for the Duchy, Mr Trethewey will be based in the Cornwall Sports Partnership Offices, located on the Threemilestone Industrial Estate, just outside Truro.

Here, he will join forces with other sport specific officers, forming part of a large team who collectively develop sport across the county.

Joe, specifically, will work to develop badminton in Cornwall and will liaise closely with The Cornwall County Badminton Association (CCBA), whose own volunteers do so much to provide the opportunities for the casual and competitive player to enjoy this popular sport.

Regional Badminton Development Manager, John Edwards, said “Much of Joe’s work will focus around increasing participation within schools and junior clubs, in addition to ensuring that the necessary coaching structure to support this increase is in place.”

Prior to embarking on his new development role, Joe has a very important development commitment to arrange and fulfil – as on Saturday, September, 17th he gets married.
