Launceston College Finishes 14th at National Schools Finals.

Launceston College finished an excellent 14th in the National Final of the Under 14’s Top Schools’ Badminton Tournament on the weekend of April 16th / 17th.

Tom Lyle (Captain), Rob Hicks, Ross Lashbrook, Andrew Brewster and Joe Acaster all proudly represented Launceston College at the National event held at Luton, Bedfordshire, writes John Tresidder, with Andy Lyle.

Following the loss to Brighton College, by 3 rubbers to 2 and to Stonehenge, 4 rubbers to 1, in their first box, the College rallied famously and went on to beat both Warwick and Parrs Wood, by 4 rubbers to 1.

This result took them through to the play off for 13th and 14th place which after a close contest, it went down to the final rubber, which Launceston narrowly lost by 15 rubbers to 13.

Tom Lyle picked up where he left off - winning all five of his singles, which was a credit to him and once more, he was backed by a sound performances from Rob, Ross, Andrew and Joe.

Launceston also looked the part, most certainly - with their new strip shirts which were very kindly sponsored by Paul Hicks Insurance of Launceston and Saltash.

The Team wish to reiterate their thanks to Jenny Worth, in respect of her hard work and also express their appreciation to the College and The East Cornwall Schools’ Badminton League for their support in reaching this final.

The Boys, once again, were all a credit to Launceston College and the Town and well done from the five parents who accompanied the team.
