* Guy and Shane in 5-Star form at Swindon:

Cornwall Under-17’s travelled to Swindon to play the Host County, Wiltshire, in a Friendly Match and were seen to go down bravely, by 15 rubbers to 9.

The unusual format of eight boys, per team, was agreed upon by both Counties, owing to the home team being unable to field any girls.

Bodes well:

It gave Kernow the opportunity to introduce two talented fourteen-year-olds, Douglas Andrews - the Kerrier Fifth Junior Tournament Under-14 Singles champion and Andy Lyle.

Although neither youngster registered a win, they both played really well - against much older opponents - which bodes well for their future in the sport.

Guy Michell, the Team Captain and Shane Maton won their respective singles with ease and then proceeded to team up to secure all four of the level doubles rubbers in which they were involved.

Such has been their improvement throughout the season, that the dynamic duo have dominated all the games in which they have been involved.

Dedication and commitment have been to the fore and earned Guy and Shane their much deserved results and accolades.

Dan Mock also seen to play well, but it was obvious that he missed his regular partner, Ed Micklem, who was unavailable.

Summing up, Wilshire displayed much the greater strength in depth and it was seen to be a learning curve for the Cornwall’s three newcomers, including Max Lichtenberg.
However, they were not overawed and gained invaluable experience at this higher level, which will hold them in good stead for next season.
