Carlton Cup Final. Cornwall County Badminton Association Carlton Cup Final. Played at Polkyth Sports Centre, St. Austell on Sunday 20th February 2005, between Liskeard Badminton Club from the Mid Cornwall League and St Just Badminton Club from the West Cornwall League. The match was officiated by Jenny Marchant the County Chairman and amongst the spectators were the County President Mike Avery and his wife Pauline. The competition comprises Ladies, Men’s and Mixed Doubles all playing two ends with the points being added up and then a handicap applied. Starting with the Mixed pairings St. Just won the second and third pairings by 30 – 12 and 30 – 20 respectively. The first pairings were very closely contested with Liskeard winning the first end 15 – 8 and St. Just the second 15 – 7 giving St. Just the rubber 23 – 22 making the overall points in the mixed 83 – 54 to St. Just. Next up was the level doubles - in the Ladies St. Just won all three rubbers 30 – 10; 30 – 5; and 30 – 10 giving St. Just a 90 – 25 points win. The Men’s started well for Liskeard with them winning the first rubber 30 – 22, but St. Just proved to be too strong winning the second rubber 30 – 11 and the third 30 – 3 giving St. Just a 82 – 44 points win. This resulted in St. Just having 255 points to Liskeard 123 which after adjusting for the handicaps of 110 for Liskeard and 25 for St. Just left St. Just the winners of the Carlton Cup by 280 – 233 points. The Cup will be presented at the County Dinner Dance being held at the Riviera Hotel Newquay on Friday 8th April 2005.
