CORNISH SCHOOL THROUGH TO BADMINTON NATIONAL FINAL

13th March, 2008

Launceston Launceston Winning Launceston team & with Miss Unwin

LAUNCESTON COLLEGE & TRURO SCHOOL travelled up to Exeter University on 11th March for the BADMINTON England National Schools Regional Final having won the Cornish final of this new event back in January.

Seven Counties from across the South West were represented in what proved to be a fantastic days’ competition.

Launceston who were represented by Ross Lashbrook, Patrick Davis, Phil Lyle, Andrew Brewster & Lawrence Sampson got off to a flying start by overcoming King Arthur’s School, Somerset 5-0. They were able to build on this success by beating Devizes Sports College, Wiltshire 4-1 which placed them in the final. The Cornish lads really had the bit between their teeth & saw off Ashdown School, Bristol 3-2 in a fantastic climax to an exciting days’ badminton.

The team from Truro School representing Cornwall in the Girls year 10 & 11 event were extremely unlucky not to join Launceston on the winners rostrum by losing 3-2 to Bournmouth School for Girls, with the last rubber going against Truro 21-20! Truro School were represented by Claire Whitmore, Johanna Philp, Emily Waller, Gabby Cecil & Chloe Gilchrist.

Truro School were also representing Cornwall in the year 7,8 & 9 boys & girls events. Both of these young developing sides performed well gained invaluable experience in the process.

Congratulations & good luck to the Launceston College boys & their supportive PE teacher, Carol Unwin who will accompany the team that will represent Cornwall in the National final to be held in Derby on 24th April.
