The team fought hard in the 12 singles matches with Andrew Brewster playing at 5 narrowly losing out in 3 ends-a very determined performance.

Unfortunately the Duchy only registered two wins with the girls leading the line with Claire Whitmore winning a gruelling 3 ender at number One and Bronwen Wotton winning in two ends at number Two.

This poor start meant an uphill battle, but the players responded with two wins for Ross Lashbrook and Patrick Davis and Chris Glasson and Daniel Johnson.

In addition there was a great win by Phil Lyle and Andrew Brewster playing at number three. In the girls Claire and Lorna Garbett won two from three and a new pairing of Bronwen and Gemma Cliff also won two .

The match was lost as the mixed got underway but undeterred there was a cracking tight 3 ender with Ross and Bronwen losing 21-19 third end.

The match of the day belonged to Sofia Ziaka and Phil Lyle playing with outstanding nerve to win 3 tight ends a great win for a new pairing at number 5.

Final Result 23-13 to Wiltshire

There was a county debut for Huw Vicary ( Penryn) who was talent spotted at the National Inter Schools competition in December at Carn Brea, Huw performed well taking his mixed match to three ends with Emily and his development is on track for a successful 2008/9 season. County Badges were awarded to Emily Waller and Sofia Ziaka (having represented the U17s on 3 or more occasions this season).

The defeat still leaves the U17s in a strong position as they prepare for their final match v Avon on the 2nd March in Bristol.

This will be a test of the teams character as Avon are the clear favourities to lift the South West Title ( having three England International players to call on) and will be a marker for the Inter Counties Tournament which takes place at Nottingham between 27-31 st March. County Team v Wiltshire
