SENIOR WINS & PENVENTON PARK HOTEL’S GENEROUS SPONSORSHIP

LAST Sunday Week (February 17), the Penventon Park Hotel, from West End, Redruth, presented the Cornwall Youth Badminton Organisation (CYB), with a £1,000 cheque at their training/coaching session, held at Wadebridge Leisure Centre, writes John Tresidder.

The Three Star Country House Hotel’s generous donation, has assisted with the purchase of the new Yonex tracksuits which have been gratefully accepted and worn, resplendently, by the CYB youngsters and coaches.

Jon Wotton, the Co-ordinator for CYB, expressed his thanks to Mr. David Pascoe, the Hotel’s Managing Director and his fellow Directors.


Cornwall’s two senior teams come up trumps:

Cornwall’s two senior teams, looking resplendent in the new team shirts, sponsored by Rubber Flooring Online, both registered Victor Sports Inter-County Championship wins last Sunday Week (February 17) at Polkyth Leisure Centre, St. Austell.

The “Chiefs” winning streak continued with a fine 10 rubbers to 5 home win to complete the double against arch-rivals Devon III and gain maximum league points.

Comfortable victories in both Men’s singles by St Austell Bay’s James Whetter and Guy Michell set the tone, with the pair going on to secure both doubles, maintaining their unbeaten run for the season.

This was matched by with two successes from Bob Bell and Andy Toy outfit, together with two excellent hard fought Ladies’ Doubles wins, by the experienced Jan Santillo and Lynda Beer combination.

James and Andy went on to register 100% performances by winning their mixed games, with Rachel Irish and Laura Harper.

The Team's final game of this campaign, was held last Saturday (February 23) - away to Guernsey II - at Poole, Dorset, with Port Isaac’s Johanna Philp, aged 14, being awarded a second First Team cap.


Second Team Win

Meanwhile, Cornwall's Second Team, made up of five players aged 18 and under, alongside more experienced colleagues, had another good win in a successful season, at the same venue, accounting for the Isle-of-Wight, 9 - 6.

All players pulled together to produce a fine conclusion, in a closely contested match.


Whitmore’s promising debut:

It was a first call-up for 16 year old Truro School student, Claire Whitmore - the holder of two National Circuit Gold medals - who recorded her singles convincingly, together with one of her doubles, in partnership with Emily James, aged 17, who is Falmouth-based.
