    * Cornwall Under-15’s wind up season:

Meanwhile, Cornwall Youth Badminton’s Under-15 team have wound up their season with two superbly fought home matches, at Truro School, against Wiltshire and Somerset.

Both encounters, on separate days, resulted in the same score, 20 rubbers – 16, in favour of the visiting team, with the Duchy narrowly missing out on victory on both occasions.

Kernow, in both matches, got off to a strong start but failed to capitalize on their early lead which at the end of the day, proved to be their downfall, in the final analysis.

However, Kath Wotton, the team manager, reported: “I could not have asked more from any of my players who have represented their County so proudly, throughout this season.

“The youngsters’ behaviour and attitude has been exemplary on all occasions - on and off the court - and myself, together with the CYB Organisation, is extremely proud of everything that they have achieved.

“And, there is no doubting that the Under-15 side is continuing to develop and improve, which bodes well and is most exciting for the future.”

    * The player of the match was awarded as follows:

    Against Wiltshire - Bronwen Wotton, who registered wins all five of her matches;
Against Somerset - Emily Waller, who secured a spirited long 3-ended singles victory.

    • Connor Moore (Redruth)
    • Patrick Davis (Launceston)
    • Philip Lyle (Launceston)
    • Andrew Brewster (Launceston)

Mrs. Wotton, who is also the Badminton Development Officer for Cornwall, continued: “I would also like to thank the fantastic support we have had from our squad players, many of whom have narrowly missed out on selection for the team.

“Their sterling efforts at the training sessions have been immense and I am looking forward to working with them in the 2007/2008 campaign.

“Finally, I would like to convey my good wishes to all of the Under-15’s who will be moving onward and upward into the CYB Under-17’s next season and wish One & All every success for the future.”

    Liskeard lift Senior Trophy:

Finally, the Truro and Liskeard Clubs competed in the West Briton Bowl Final, held at Polkyth Leisure Centre, St. Austell, on February 25.

Liskeard came through as eventual winners, by 8 rubbers to 1. However, the scoreline does not truly represent the tightness of the rallies, which the score-sheet displays - with four matches going to a third deciding end.

The trophy will be presented at the County Dinner/Dance, scheduled for the Hotel Riviera, Newquay, on Friday April 20.
