19th November, 2006

CORNWALL 12 - AVON 24

Cornwall U15 team travelled to Gordano School, Bristol on Sunday 19th November to take on Avon in their third match of the season.

The team was as follows :

  • Ross Lashbrook (Launceston)
  • Connor Moore (Redruth)
  • Phil Lyle (Launceston)
  • Andrew Brewster (Launceston)
  • James Payne (Callington)
  • Josh Pearce (St Austell)*

  • Bronwen Wotton (Leedstown)
  • Johanna Philp (Port Isaac)
  • Emily Waller (Tregony)
  • Lorna Garbett (Liskeard)
  • Chloe Gilchrist (Fowey)
  • Gabbi Cecil (St Austell)*
(the * denotes a first cap )

Once again there was a opportunity for two newcomers to chance their arm & on this occasion, both Josh & Gabbi acquitted themselves very well. Josh in particular showed great strength of character by winning both his singles & a doubles match with new partner, James Payne. James went on to win a mixed doubles with Chloe Gilchrist, giving Chloe her first taste of victory. Others to secure their first win for the Duchy were Andrew Brewster whilst partnering Phil Lyle, & Lorna Garbett who won her singles in great style.

Bronwen Wotton & Johanna Philp again both won their singles matches leaving them unbeaten so far this season, & they went on to win two out of their three doubles games.

The Player of the Match Award went to Ross Lashbrook who won two out of his three doubles matches & secured an impressive win with Bronwen against the Avon number one pair.

The team were praised by the Avon team manager for their sportsmanship throughout the match, which has been our best performance so far this season, with signs that better things are to come!
