23rd October, 2006

The week began at St Just Badminton Club on Monday 16th October at St Just Sports Centre where there was an attempt to beat the 1 minute challenge, set by Englands Gail Emms & Donna Kellogg( who managed to hit the shuttle across the net an amazing 153 times in 1 minute). A top Cornish score was set at 126 by Nikki Ellis & Val Fraser + Nikki Ellis & Jamie Dunne. Well done to all who took part.

At the invitation of Val Fraser it was off to Cape Cornwall School on Tuesday 17th where the students came to have a go in their lunch hour. Chris Clemens & Michael Lay managed a very worthy 90 hits to win a £5 vouchers generously donated by Cornwall Sports. These 2 events made £20 for the NSPCC and got the week off to a fantastic start! Many thanks to Val & St Just!

The stakes were rising & a visit to First Edition Badminton Club on Wednesday 18th saw a new over 18 Cornish record made by Andy White & Trevor Searle of 133 shots. A further £8.50 was added to the total. Thanks to both First Edition & Tecans (who were visitors, playing in a match) for their support.

Thursday 19th saw a visit to Truro School where the new Challenge shield match between Truro School & First Edition took place. Truro were delighted to lift the shield, seeing off First Edition in a closely fought match by 8 games to 7. In lieu of match fees, both teams donated £1 per player to our NBW charity, adding a further £20 to the pot! My thanks to Dave Hunt (Truro School) & Clifton Morecomb (First Edition) for arranging this great event!

A busy night was had by all on Friday 20th as Truro Club (seniors & juniors) took up the challenge. There was also County Senior training at Polkyth, St Austell where again the 1 minute challenge was taking place. A new Cornish record for the seniors & juniors took place with James Whetter & Alison Philp recording a score of 134 whilst hot on their heels, Emily James & Tom Lyle clocked up 132 for the junior record! Meanwhile the money being raised was also rising with £6 from County Training & an amazing £21 from the Truro Juniors & Seniors. Many thanks to Tony Poole & Helen Wright for their support.

Saturday 21st saw another attempt to improve on the ever rising scores. Camborne based First Edition Juniors started with their early group of 8 - 13 year olds. The winners were as follows:
