BADMINTON: TRURO SCHOOL DELIGHTED TO LIFT THE SHIELD
8th October, 2006 Truro School defeated First Edition Badminton Club’s Juniors, from Camborne, by 8 rubbers to 7, in an inaugural Badminton “Challenge” match, held in the School’s sports hall, last Thursday evening (October 19th), writes John Tresidder, with David Hunt. And the event, which will now become an annual contest, with the shield being perpetual, formed part of The National Badminton Week, which concludes on Sunday, October 22nd. The match, which was played in a fine sprit, was seen to go to the wire; with the score tied at 7-all, Truro School's Kiran Bhardwaj held his nerve to win the final singles 24-22 against Ben Cooper of First Edition. All involved felt it was a great night's badminton with the match fees of £20 pounds (one pound per player) going to the NSPCC – BADMINTON England’s chosen charity for the week. The organisers were: David Hunt, Master/Second Year Head, Truro School and Clif Morcom, the Coach, for both Truro School and First Edition Juniors. Kath Wotton, the Badminton Development Officer for Cornwall was also in attendance and giving her support. Mrs. Wotton commented: “I enjoyed the proceedings, immensely and wish to relay my congratulations to the organisers and to all the youngsters who took part.” Finally, “Roll on 2007” was the universal call from One & All in the hall. FULL RESULTS: 1.00 Doubles (Truro School names listed first):
